Outboard water pump removal?
I have a 1961 Johnson 18 hp FD 18 . When trying to remove the bolt from the shifter linkage under the cover plate, the lower fastener was not a hex head. Does anyone know what tool is used to remove this two notch fastener?ThanksThere is no corrosion. It is a round head fastener with two square notches at 180 degrees opposed like a clock face with two small square notches 3 and 9 o'clock . I would envision a tool like those round burgler alarm keys.
What water pump/ Impeller repair kit do I need? Mercury Outboard?
I need a new kit for my water pump impeller. Now this will be A LOT easier if I can get the right part without having a serial number because my boat is in storage. It is a 1994 Mercury 60hp, Oil injected 2 stroke, 3 cylinder outboard engine on my 94' Tracker v 17.I need like a part or something so I can buy the right kit.I know that it is time to replace it anyways, but I have been having problems. My motor runs fine in a tank, or with muffs. It also runs fine when I launch it. But after running for a minute or two it just dies. And does not want to start again. Could this be caused by over heating? Without beeping first, or would it beep and maybee my sensor is bad?

on a 1986 aq131 4 cyl. penta the raw water pump has 2 copper pipes coming out of it. the clamps or what ever they are that hold them onto the pump is what i need. one overlaps the other and they are screwed on with 2 screws.mine are rotted and leaking .this maybe why it over heated. also i took the recirculating pump off to check it and it looks fine.do not know what to really look for . it is all tight and smooth moving.at 105.00 an hour i can not afford to pay the shop anymore. i was a mech in iraq with the army.got banged up. guess it is good time as ever to get back into mechanics. thanks for any help

i have a 2000 chevy malibu i know it sucks i fixed the intake manifold gaskets upper and lower & thermostat and its still leaking and sometimes overheating. my next thought is its the water pump. there's no crack in the radiator or hoses is there anything else that can cause it to overheat besides these. what about vacuum leakage? o2 sensors?
