With today's technology, you don't have to make it hard on yourself. There are a dozens of options for retrieving up to the minute weather forecasts through the Caribbean. From Florida to Venezuela NOAA weather reports are broadcast continually on all weather frequencies via VHF, and SSB radio. In addition, the latest marine weather charts are broadcast by the U.S. Coast Guard and are available from the National Weather Service Telecommunication Gateway. Internet at sea is becoming more avaliable all the time. In many locations, cellular telephone range off shore is not a problem and the number of cellular service providers in the Caribbean are constantly increasing. In addition, there are many enhanced terrestrial wireless Internet services such as those provided by GoAmerica, TeleSea, and Motient. Many companies now offer Marine WIFI technology which is rapidly becoming popular at marinas; and competitive satellite services including Inmarsat, all over the world are getting more and more competitive. Below links offer more information and options. Happy & Safe Boating, John |
