BOATING Q & A

Will a damage prop cause you to have slow hole shot?

Question: Will a damage prop cause you to have slow hole shot?

(Posted by: on 2010-05-31 14:59:08)

I messed it up at the dock. I didn't pull the motor up so all three blades lost but it was evenly lost. Does anyone know what kind of prop I should be looking for, size and all? It is a 125 force 89 model?

Prop damage can affect all phases of operation. if your hole shot problems started when you damaged the prop, then it's very likely to be the cause. only thing you can count on for sure is that running a damaged prop will tear up your gears. keep it up, you're looking at a $2000 or more repair.

Yes! It's like driving on a flat tire. The lower the pitch the better the hole-shot, but given the weight of the boat you will loose top end. It's a balancing act. You want the engine in it's best torque range, without straining or over revving. The prop plays a major role in that. In all cases, the prop needs to be clean and in very good condition.

Yes it will cause poor performance and destroy the lower unit if U keep running it.
