If a shear pin on an outboard is to thin could it mak make the prop spin only in reverse most of the time?
I broke a shear pin on my 1963 18 hp evinrude out in gods country and the parts guy gave me a set of shear pins made by S& J 550091 3 16 1 19 64. now the motor only will go in reverse. if I play with the throttle I can sometimes get it to work until I take it out of gear,could this be the problem or something more serious the part should be 0307949 no size given

I am a commercial diver and in my 2 short years I have done numerouse prop polishes. All the props I have done are flat on the face of the blades normal but I have came across 2 props now that have deflections in the blade and it almost looks as though they were designed that way but I don't know. It isn't cavitation I do know that but i guess the best way to describe it is dents in the blade and it is consistent threw out. It makes it a pain to polish obviously because it isn't flat threw out. I just wanted to know if this was caused by something or if it was designed that way or what and if u have any more info on it that would be much apriciated. Thanks

I am new to boat ownership. I have a 1969 Whitcraft Coastal Cruiser, she is 37' with a planing fiberglass " V" hull. I have acquired a 571 Turbo Diesel flat 4 with an Allison Transmission. The boat originally came with the option of a supercharged 454 or 2 350's. I was told the weight is not a problem. It's going to be a " direct drive" shaft. I am not that concerned with speed, this is going to used just to cruise the Strait of Juan DeLA Fuca and Puget Sound. What would be a good prop for some light ocean going trips and fishing in the sound?

What pitch prop do I need?
I have an 17 ft 88 bayliner Capri with a 2.3L engine and an OMC outdrive. I changed the lower unit and used one from a 3.0L engine but they are compatible. My prop that was on my old lower unit won't fit on the new lower unit as the prop shaft is wider. I don't know what pitch prop to get and my boat doesn't run right now so I can't see the rpms but I do know that it can get up to 25 30 mph. I forgot what prop is on now, but I think it's a 21 pitch or something higher and it bogs down and it took 3 people on the bow to make it plane out. I'm assuming I need a lower pitch, like 15 17 but which is better?
