BOATING Q & A

Gift idea for a merchant marine chief mate?

Question: Gift idea for a merchant marine chief mate?

(Posted by: krazykels on 2010-08-07 20:41:55)

I have a good friend that was just promoted to chief mate on an oil tanker (please don't start giving me trouble about it being an oil tanker though). I wanted to give him a gift as congratulations but am at a complete loss for what would be meaningful. I tried to get a model of the ship he is on, no luck. Couldn't even find a real model of an oil tanker. So if there are any other sailors, or better, merchant marines like my friend, that could help me I would really appreciate it! Thank you much!

Give him a piece of coral...haha just kidding. Buy him a nice new watch (leather and gold) that is waterproof.

Being ex navy on an aircraft carrier I can tell you that privacy is scarce. I would advise something small like a mp3 player, pre paid cell phone ( if he does'ent have one ) , lock box, sony psp if he likes to play games ( yes its a bit expensive ) , ect. Hope this helps!

You can get him smth really original and sentimental that will remind him of you everytime he looks at it: a 100% hand-made painting from his photo in a uniform. I've discovered this website that turns photos into beautiful hand-made paintings and the prices are really affordable too. Here's the link: paintedsouvenirs.com ..Good luck on finding the right gift!
