Boats dont do power upgrades cheaply and easily. and sometimes they arent safe at all, weight increase can doom the project to failure the 1st time it gets in the water and the rear end sits too low. and with the cost of a marine engine, the only kind that will last in that enviroment, buying a boat that has the bigger motor in it already may be cheaper. as well as much easier. and you might be suprised how little performance increase ti gets you. i'd be willing to bet you have the 3.0, in a smaller boat. it may take it a second or two to get to speed, but once there the v8 powered boats in its class arent any faster. 45 mph is about as fast as most any sterndrive goes. and that motor is much more friendly on the wallet with its fuel consumption then the v8s are. for further details, make of the drive might help. on mercs there is little to know obvious difference in the transom assembly and drives between the 3.0 (4 cylinder) and the 5.7s |
