Yes many time I have had some 1 do this trying to save $.Then I have to repair the out come. If U did Than remove the spark plugs and turn the engine over blowing out the water and then get running as soon as possible or rust will start and the engine will have issues.Let run for a while or put back in the water and run.Check the oil as to see if the water went in there also.It will be on the bottom and will not show on the dip stick. But will turn milky when started. So if possible drain some of the oil and see if water is in it.
