Follow these steps, you'll get it fixed: 1. make sure the throttle/ shift control is in neutral. jiggle the handle, maybe the neutral safety switch is stuck. 2. check the 20-amp fuse in the inline fuse holder on the red wire on the powerhead, between the big red main wiring harness plug and starter solenoid. 3. measure the battery voltage, a fully charged battery measures at least 12.65 volts. A fully discharged battery is 11.89 volts. 4. disconnect, clean and reconnect all the cables, battery to solenoid to starter. By "clean " I mean make 'em shine (hint: sandpaper). 5. using a known-good, fully charged battery, measure the voltage at the solenoid small input terminal with the key turned over to "start ". if you get 12v (+ / - half a volt), and the solenoid doesn't "click ", replace the solenoid. If you got low voltage there, you have a wiring fault in the wiring harness, neutral safety switch (inside the control box) or keyswitch. |
