There is no timing belt or chain on a 3.0L, the camshaft is gear driven from the crankshaft, so there is nothing to "slip ". to check camshaft timing, remove the pulleys and gear cover from the front of the engine. There are alignment marks on the gears that must line up. To set initial distributor timing: Bring #1 piston (front) to TDC. Loosen distributor and rotate the housing until the rotor lines up with #1 terminal on the distributor cap. Start the engine. You may have to move the distributor slightly to get the engine to start. Once the engine is running, use a timing light to set the distributor timing. You will need a manual to determine the set point for your model. After setting, run the engine up to temperature, and check the timing again. |
