Question: Will a sea anchor help my 13ft boat to stop drifting while fishing?

Not a real metal anchor, the anchor that looks similar to a airsock? Thank You |

No it will not. The purpose of a sea anchor is to hold a boats bow into the wind and waves when adrift, or to slow down your drift when it is very windy. Typically they are used in emergencies. It will not hold you in one place. |

It should. With a smaller boat, such as yours, you could find pretty much any heavy object (brake drum/ rotor, dumbbell, etc) tie a rope to it, and use it as an anchor. |

That all depends what the seabed is like. If its a sandy bottom use CQR type and if its rocky use a grapnel type. Look on here theanchorstore.co.uk |

A drogue or parachute anchor will slow your drift quite a bit, but it won't stop it. You stream the drogue from the bow, or possibly from a bridle to set the boat across the breeze and sea ( depends on the conditions really). Any current might take you in an unexpected direction, or it might even hold you against the breeze. Sometimes a flat sail of sorts is mounted to increase the amount of drift in light conditions. The only thing that will stop you from drifting at all is a good anchor, chain and plenty of rode. Good luck. |

It will make your boat drift with the current and not with the wind. |

No. They are used to directionally stabilise yachts in heavy seas. A heavy anchor with ten feet of chain should do the trick. I used a Danforth pattern 'fluke' anchor on my 5.5 metre rib and it never failed. Car boots in places like Portsmouth will have them secondhand. See boating mags for locations. |
